  21. <H3>Configuring Microsoft Internet Explorer</H3>
  22. These instructions have been tested with Versions 2.1 and 3.0. Procedures for other 
  23. versions may vary. Check the online help for Internet Explorer for instructions 
  24. on adding viewers.

  26. Before you register Across Lite with Internet Explorer,
  27. ensure that Internet Explorer is installed correctly and that you can access WWW
  28. sites and download files using Internet Explorer.

  30. <STRONG>Internet Explorer version 3.0 and later</STRONG>
  31. <BR>

  33. <LI> Start up Internet Explorer(tm).
  34. <LI> Click on Edit and then Preferences in the menu bar (or Click on Preferences
  35. in the Toolbar).
  36. <LI> In the dialog box that appears, click on Helpers on the left side of
  37. the dialog.
  38. <LI> Click on Add... button on the right.
  39. <LI> Enter <STRONG>Across Crossword</STRONG> in the Description field.
  40. <LI> Enter <STRONG>application/x-crossword</STRONG> in the MIME Type field.
  41. <LI> Enter <STRONG>.puz</STRONG> in the Suffixes field.
  42. <LI> Click on Binary check box (if it is not already selected).
  43. <LI> Click on Choose in the Handling part.
  44. <LI> Go to the Across lite folder using the dialog box that comes up
  45. and Select Across Lite program.

  47. The name of the Across Lite program should now appear on the left of the 
  48. Choose button and the pull down menu on top of it should read
  49. Use a Helper Application.
  50. <LI>Enter <STRONG>Apzl</STRONG> in the File Type field.
  51. <LI>Click on New.
  52. <LI>Click on OK.

  55. The program is now registered as a helper application with Internet Explorer(tm).

  60. <LI> Start up Internet Explorer(tm).
  61. <LI> Click on Options and then General Preferences... in the menu bar.
  62. <LI> In the panel selectors at the top, select Helpers 
  63. <LI> Click the Create New Type... button.
  64. <LI> In the dialog box that pops up enter <STRONG>application</STRONG> as the Mime Type and <STRONG>x-crossword</STRONG> as the Mime Subtype. Click on OK.
  65. <LI> In the File Extensions edit line enter just the three letters <STRONG>PUZ</STRONG>.
  66. <LI> In the Action checkbox list, select Launch the Application.
  67. <LI> Use the Browse button to locate the Across Lite Program file and select it.
